Westlake Lakes

PACE designed a 71-acre system of five interconnected manmade lakes within the Westlake residential development in Stockton, California. The lake system is multi-functional, providing stormwater collection and storage, drainage conveyance, and water quality management for a regional watershed totaling 1,813 acres. Our team conducted a hydrology study report and water surface profile analysis to evaluate the watershed for a 100-year storm event to determine how much water needs to be stored in the lakes and how much needs to be pumped out. Based on the study’s results, the lake system was designed with sufficient storage to attenuate the peak flow and lake pump stations were designed to discharge this runoff volume within a 24-hour period. Additionally, a water quality management system consisting of aeration, alum injection, recirculation piping, and wetland planters ensures that any discharge from the Westlake development to the San Joaquin River is of the same or better quality than that discharged prior to development. The lake system also serves as a focal aesthetic and recreational feature for the residential development, providing the community with opportunities for fishing, boating, and other forms of waterside leisure.
