Viewpoint Lake Rehabilitation

PACE performed a rehabilitation alternatives study for the existing Viewpoint Lake in the Lakeview Recreation Center for the Recreation Center of Sun City, Inc. (RCSC). Viewpoint Lake is approximately 33 acres and was originally built in the early 1970s. The existing lake had several issues, including a torn PVC liner causing increased water loss, cracked and broken concrete along the shoreline, and scum buildup at the lake bottom. The goal of the rehabilitation study was to provide recommendations and solutions to address these problems.

Since the study, Viewpoint Lake has been successfully renovated. During renovation, the built-up muck was allowed to dry out and then removed. The existing liner was fully replaced with a 30 mil RPE liner, and the concrete shoreline were completely rebuilt, providing a safer edge condition.

Viewpoint Lake, like many other lakes, serves multiple functions by providing irrigation water, stormwater storage, and an aesthetic and recreational amenity. The lake supplies irrigation water to the nearby golf course and receives stormwater runoff from the adjacent neighborhoods. Additionally, properties adjacent to the lake enjoy scenic lakefront views and have private boating access. The lake was also renovated with fish habitats and is regularly stocked to support recreational fishing.
