La Mirada City Hall Fountain Renovation

In 1970, the City of La Mirada constructed their iconic City Hall Fountain, which served as a central landmark for many years. To revitalize the once iconic fountain, the City hired PACE to design the existing fountain’s renovation to create a welcoming public space, improve water efficiency, improve aesthetics, and much more.

PACE provided comprehensive engineering design services to develop a cost-effective renovation plan that kept the fountain and its existing waterfall as its main focal point. The project transformed the existing three basins. The south fountain basin was converted into a landscape planter box, enhancing the streetscape aesthetics. The north lower basin size was kept the same, except the concrete slab was replaced with a new tile finish, fountain jets, and LED underwater lights. The north upper basin was reduced in size to make way for the new Civic Center Fountain Plaza. The new upper basin features fountain jets and LED underwater lights.

The newly converted Civic Center Fountain Plaza features a permeable paver system, stone wall caps, brick veneers, a perimeter glass safety barrier, landscaping, overhead lighting, and ground-level lighting.

With the new fountain design at the Civic Center Fountain Plaza, water and power consumption was reduced while still providing enhanced aesthetic features that serve as a focal point for the city and its residents.
