City of Huntington Beach Well #9 Wellhead Treatment

PACE provided multiple phases of project development, laboratory services, piloting, concept development, water treatment facility engineering, planning division graphics, and startup and operations support services on this innovative and unique treatment system, working directly with City staff. Sophisticated desktop, bench, pilot scale, and full-scale demonstrations were provided for confirmation of the proposed process for innovative biological treatment of reduced (non-oxidized) drinking water quality constituents in the potable supply at Well #9 and other City wells. The pilot testing confirmed mechanisms for biological oxidation of hydrogen sulfide. This important and unique process has been presented at several national conferences, including the American Water Works Association (AWWA).

A complete 3,000-gallon-per-minute (4.3-million-gallon-per-day) treatment facility was designed, including a granular activated carbon (GAC) filtration system and media, with complete structural, mechanical, electrical, and controls integration design for reliable and simple operation. A custom filtration control panel design was also provided. PACE provided all project bid documents, permitting, and coordination with Southern California Edison, and assisted the City with the bid process and construction support services.
