Belle Haven Community Center Aquatic Facilities

Menlo Park, CA

The new Belle Haven Community Center located in Menlo Park, CA, includes state-of-the-art energy-efficient pool aquatic facilities designed by PACE. The design features a 3,600-square-foot competition lap pool with six swimming lanes, a 1,500-square-foot activity pool, and a 200-square-foot splash pad. Special design features were incorporated, such as a luxury pool edge consisting of a triple coping that aesthetically conceals drainage grates.

To support the City’s endeavor to achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification, PACE worked with the project architect, Hart Howerton, to evaluate all-electric pool heating system options to incorporate green energy resources. A solar thermal system was selected that collects heat from solar photovoltaic panels in the parking lot to heat the pools.

The activity pool contains a sloped entry to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility requirements. A unique ramp configuration was included in the activity pool that starts at the deep end of the pool and slopes down toward the shallow end to provide easy access while minimizing impacts to the pool area.
