Gobernadora Multi-Purpose Basin Receives Statewide Recognition

The unique Gobernadora Multipurpose Basin has received recognition from multiple local, regional and statewide agencies for its extensive contributions towards sustainable water supply management. In May, The Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) named the project a finalist for the Clair A. Hill Water Agency Award for Excellence, a prestigious recognition from a statewide organization. This marks the third award for the project in the last six months, including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) of Orange County Water Project of the Year and the Urban Land Institute (ULI) of Orange County / Inland Empire Best of the Best Merit Recognition.

The Gobernadora Multipurpose Basin reclaims an urban stormwater waste stream and provides flood attenuation through a 26-acre basin system. The benefits produced by the basin are made possible due to advanced engineering design including dynamic controls that adjust operation according to flow conditions, inflatable rubber diversion dams, wetland water quality treatment, extensive flood detention, groundwater pumping wells and a complex pumping facility to transfer treated flows to a non-potable water system and an important regional ecological area for habitat and environmental preservation.
