The City of Show Low, Arizona City Council unanimously approved a $1.17 million contract with PACE for the design of the 2.5 MGD wastewater treatment plant on June 18th, 2013. This contract was awarded following the completion of an evaluation to determine the treatment process and refine ancillary scope components which resulted in the identification of key cost savings opportunities. The results of the study led to the recommendation of a 2.5 MGD biological nutrient removal (BNR) activated sludge process at approximately the same capital cost as the originally proposed 1.75 MGD facility, including additional earthwork identified to address high site groundwater and treatment not originally proposed. The design approach also eliminates over $2.3 million in additional cost that would have been incurred for future expansion had a phased approach been implemented.
PACE was selected for its specialized team with significant wastewater treatment experience throughout Arizona, strong knowledge of the BNR system and the proven ability to identify significant value-added and cost reducing solutions. The facility design includes modifying the existing aerated lagoon process to a 2.5 MGD BNR Activated Sludge process to meet ADEQ BADCT requirements and Class A+ quality effluent.
